Vietjet and Vietnam Airlines have separately announced plans to launch nonstop service between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo, marking the first direct air links between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Both announcements were made during the Vietnam-Sri Lanka Trade, Investment and Tourism Cooperation Forum in Colombo, held as part of Vietnamese President To Lam’s state visit to Sri Lanka. Vietjet says it plans to launch 4X-weekly flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo from August. Vietnam Airlines will begin 3X-weekly roundtrip flights on the same route from October using Airbus A321 aircraft. According to Vietnam Airlines, more than 38,000 passengers traveled between Vietnam and Sri Lanka in 2025, up 17.5% year-on-year.

Romania’s Dan Air will expand its Bucharest network with four new destinations from July 1, adding service to Amman, Jordan; Yerevan, Armenia; and Tbilisi, Georgia, while making Aleppo, Syria, a permanent route in its scheduled network. The carrier says the new routes from Henri Coanda International Airport will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft. The new services include Amman three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; Yerevan twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays; Tbilisi twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays; and Aleppo twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. Dan Air also confirmed it has applied for traffic rights to launch additional routes to Baghdad, Baku, Beirut and Cairo as part of a broader Middle East and Caucasus expansion strategy.

Alaska Airlines is expanding its California network with four new nonstop routes from Santa Rosa and Long Beach, adding new winter seasonal flying and restoring service to Long Beach after a decade-long absence. From Santa Rosa’s Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport, the carrier will launch seasonal service to Boise, Phoenix and Salt Lake City beginning Nov. 1. Boise and Salt Lake City will operate up to daily through April 2027, while Phoenix will operate daily through April 21. All three routes will use Embraer E175 aircraft. Alaska will also resume flights between Long Beach Airport and Seattle on Sept. 8, operating twice a day year-round with Boeing 737 aircraft.

Plus Ultra Lineas Aereas is increasing frequencies to Peru, Argentina and Venezuela while temporarily suspending operations to Colombia amid rising fuel costs. The airline sa Lima will become its first daily destination, with Madrid-Lima increasing to seven flights per week from July 14. Madrid-Buenos Aires will rise to 5X-weekly frequencies from July 6, while services between Madrid, Tenerife and Caracas will also increase to 5X-weekly flights from July 15. At the same time, Plus Ultra will suspend flights to Colombia from June 2. The carrier currently operates 3X-weekly services to the country, including two flights to Bogota and one to Cartagena de Indias. The airline says the decision follows a sharp rise in aviation fuel prices linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, alongside airport charges and operating costs in Colombia that have made the routes “unviable under current conditions.”

Eurowings has expanded its network from Berlin Brandenburg Airport with the launch of new routes to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Olbia, Italy. The LCC has commenced service to Sarajevo with weekly Saturday flights. During the peak summer holiday period from July 2 through Aug. 27, the airline will add a second weekly frequency on Thursdays. Eurowings has also launched 2X-weekly service to Olbia on the island of Sardinia, operating on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Royal Jordanian has opened nonstop service between Amman and Dallas Fort Worth. The new route operates four times per week between Queen Alia International Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport using Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Dallas becomes the airline’s fifth U.S. destination alongside Washington, Chicago, New York and Detroit.

Air France and KLM are expanding their winter 2026-27 schedules with additional long-haul flying and extended seasonal services. Air France will extend seasonal operations to Male in the Maldives and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic while also adding frequencies to Mauritius. The Paris Charles de Gaulle-Male service will operate from Dec. 18 through March 8, 2027, while Punta Cana flights will run from Nov. 30 through March 27, 2027. Additional Mauritius frequencies will operate between Nov. 3 and Dec. 6.
