ROUTES EUROPE: Lufthansa to Offer Winter Flights on Dusseldorf – Toronto Route

German national carrier Lufthansa is to continue to serve the Dusseldorf – Toronto market this winter, extending its current three times weekly summer flight through to the end of the 2011/2012 schedule. It will utilise an Airbus A330-300 on the flights which serves an O&D market of an estimated 26,000 passengers. Lufthansa holds a 33 per cent share of the traffic on the route.

However, it appears that the airline may well be reducing capacity on some of its other transatlantic flights from the German city to provide the capacity to support the new route. According to its current schedule information on the GDS, it will reduce flights from Dusseldorf to Chicago from five to four a week and to Miami from seven to five a week. There is no proposed change to its Newark Liberty International flight which will continue to operate on a daily basis.
