Russian carrier Ural Airlines has this month started seasonal flights to Gelendzhik, a resort town in Krasnodar Krai, situated on the Gelendzhik Bay of the Black Sea in Russia. The airline launched a weekly flight on Mondays from its main base at Ekaterinburg’s Koltsovo Airport on June 11, 2012 and will continue to fly the route until August 13, 2012 using one of its Airbus A320s.
This is currently the only scheduled link between the two cities and follows the operations of Joint Stock Aviation on the route between April and November last year. Approximately 4,000 O&D passengers travelled on this route during the 2011 calendar year. Around 59 per cent of these passengers made use of the direct routing of Joint Stock Aviation, the rest fly via the capital’s airports.
Due to its favourable climate Gelendzhik is a popular location for Russian leisure travellers and is regarded in the country as one of its most pleasant cities. However, it is also home to around 100,000 people providing additional traffic opportunities.
