Delta Air Lines to Boost Los Angeles – San Francisco Schedule

US major Delta Air Lines is to increase its flights on the Los Angeles – San Francisco route from March 2, 2012 offering up to eleven flights per day. It will boost capacity still further from April when one of these daily flights is upgraded to a mainline aircraft rather than being flown using regional jet equipment. Delta currently offers seven flights per day on the Californian route having reduced service in December last year. These are planned to be operated using a mix of Bombardier CRJ700 and CRJ900 aircraft (with the exception of the mainline early morning rotation from Los Angeles and evening return to San Francisco, which will be flown using a Boeing 737 from April 10, 2012. An estimated 1.93 million O&D passengers travelled on the route in the past year, up 3.9 per cent on the previous 12 month period.


WestJet Adds Flights to Aruba and Jamaica

WestJet Airlines is to introduce two new routes into the Caribbean as part of an upgraded summer programme. The airline will offer a three times weekly service from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Kingston, Jamaica from April 30, 2012 and a weekly flight to Aruba from May 6, 2012. The Canadian carrier is to also expand its seasonal flights from Toronto to San Juan and Santa Clara and from Vancouver to Kauai and Kona to a year-round basis.


Alaska Airlines Increases Seattle Offering

Alaska Airlines is to introduce daily links from Seattle Tacoma International Airport to Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale during the second quarter from June. A daily rotation to Philadelphia will commence from June 11, 2012, while flights to Fort Lauderdale will commence from July 16, 2012, but will mean the end of service to Miami International, a route it has served from Seattle since 2002. "Philadelphia is one of the largest cities we don't currently serve from Seattle while Fort Lauderdale is a popular departure point for cruise ship passengers," said Joe Sprague, Vice President of Marketing, Alaska Airlines.


Pluna to Begin Domestic Flights in Chile

Uruguayan carrier Pluna will introduce domestic flights in the Chilean market from the end of this month. The airline is to introduce a six times weekly flight between Santiago de Chile and Concepcion from February 29, 2012 and will in the process become the first foreign-registered carrier to operate in the Chilean domestic skies. Pluna will utilise a Bombardier CRJ900 on the route, an annual market of an estimated 655,000 O&D passengers and a route already served up to six times daily by LAN Airlines and up to three times daily by Sky Airline.
