ROUTES AFRICA: RwandAir Agrees to Use Routesonline for Network Growth

RwandAir, Africa’s fastest growing airline has announced at this year’s Routes Africa it will enter into a partnership with Routesonline, the online platform of Routes, to utilise its Route Exchange product to support its short-haul network expansion across Africa and its growth into medium-haul markets. With two Bombardier CRJ900 short-haul aircraft joining the fleet in November 2012, and additional narrow-bodies on order for 2013, RwandAir is seeking to gather data and proposals on the African, European and Middle Eastern markets for its short- and medium-haul equipment.

The airline has agreed in principle to launch a Request for Proposals (RFP) via Route Exchange and is working with Routesonline ahead of a formal launch of this process in the coming weeks. The initial stage of this process will invite airports to fill out a Pre Qualifying Questionnaire (PQQ) to deem their suitability to meet the basic operational and performance requirements of the airline’s aircraft. Once airports have met the terms of the PQQ, they will then be sent the formal RFP where they can complete a pre-defined data requirements spreadsheet (mandatory) and a proposal document e.g. presentation or word document (mandatory).

Speaking to The HUB ahead of the announcement, RwandAir Commercial Director Bert van der Stege said: “We’re delighted to be given the opportunity to present ourselves here at Routes Africa in the Seychelles. With our two new Bombardier CRJ900s, as well as additional medium-haul aircraft joining the fleet next year, we can continue to grow our network. We look forward to formalising this arrangement and receiving attractive proposals from airports in both Africa and beyond.”

RwandAir is currently the fastest growing airline on the African continent. RwandAir’s fleet currently consists of four Boeing 737 aircraft and one Bombardier Dash-200 series. Two brand new Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets are on order from Bombardier, scheduled to arrive in October and November this year with an option of a further two in 2013.

The African carrier serves two domestic destinations, all the East African capitals and many regional cities such as Nairobi, Entebbe, Mombasa, Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Mwanza with daily flights. The airline also serves Johannesburg, Dubai, Lagos, Libreville and Brazzaville. More destinations on the African continent will be added in November 2012.
