Nearly $400 million in funds have been cleared for the expansion of the C Concourse at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

The Port of Seattle Commission has approved a final project budget of $399 million. The Port of Seattle, which runs SEA, says in a statement it aims for the C Concourse expansion to be substantially completed in 2026.

“The project will transform the area where C and D Concourses meet by adding four floors to the building’s current three floors,” SEA says. “The project will create one floor of office space and three floors of new public space for customer service amenities, adding new dining and retail, premium lounge space, an interfaith prayer and meditation room, nursing room and outdoor viewing area.”

The roof over the newly added space will feature a solar photovoltaic array, according to the Port of Seattle.

Port of Seattle Commission President Sam Cho said that “customer experience is not the only reason why we take on these major projects,” adding: “The expanded concourse will expand opportunities for local businesses and support the financial stewardship of the airport by increasing revenue opportunities. The whole time we build with intention by focusing on sustainability and ensuring that our construction expands opportunities through the entire community."

SEA handled 45.9 million passengers in 2022, down 11% from 2019. The airport expects to reach pre-pandemic passenger levels  in 2024.
