Australia’s domestic capacity is 1% above pre-pandemic levels during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, while international capacity stands at 97% of 2019 figures, data provided by OAG Schedules Analyser shows.

Singapore, Indonesia and Japan are among the star performers when it comes to the recovery of international connectivity, with the number of seats on routes to Singapore back to 99% of pre-COVID levels. Capacity is up by 27.2% to Indonesia and 26% to Japan.

On transtasman routes to New Zealand—Australia’s largest international market—capacity during Q1 2024 stands at about 88% of 2019 levels, largely due to a reduction in service by Virgin Australia. Analysis of OAG data shows that Virgin Australia has a 3.6% share of the Australia-New Zealand market during the first three months of the year, compared with 17.9% in 2019 before its restructure.
