SHANGHAI AIRLINES BEGINS TANGSHAN SERVICE

This week saw Shanghai Airlines begin new non-stop service from its Pudong base to Tangshan in China. The route is to be operated on a daily basis with B737 equipement. Shanghai Airlines is the only carrier operating the route on a non-stop basis.


STRATEGIC MOVE TO DENPASAR

Strategic Airlines has revealed plans to operate new scheduled service from Townsville to Bali. Effective December 3rd, the carrier will begin a twice-weekly with A320 aircraft. Strategic already operates Bali on a thrice-weekly basis from Perth and once-weekly from Port Hedland.


THAI AIRASIA EXPANDS SERVICE FROM CHIANG MAI

AirAsia’s Thailand subsidiary will add a third domestic link to Hat Yai from Chiang Mai, complementing existing service to Bangkok and Phuket. The new service will be operated from January 24th on a daily basis. It will also introduce non-stop daily service from Chiang Mai to Singapore a route currently operated by low-cost competitor, Tiger Airways. Between July 2009 and July 2010, nearly 40,000 O+D passengers have flown this sector with Tiger having a 91% share.


INDONESIA AIRASIA HEADS TO DARWIN

Indonesia AirAsia will begin a daily service from Bali to Darwin commencing December 23rd. It will be the fourth destination in Australia for the AirAsia group. The route has seen over 87,000 O+D passengers travel between the city pairs between July 2009 and July 2010, with Jetstar dominating this route with its double daily service.


KOREAN RAMPS UP SINGAPORE

SkyTeam member Korean Air has unveiled plans to increase its existing service from Seoul Incheon to Singapore from a daily service to an eleven-times weekly service. The trunk route has seen over 595,000 O+D passengers fly the route between July 2009 and July 2010, with Singapore Airlines having a 33% share, Asiana a 32% share and Korean Air a 29% share.
