CHINA AIRLINES HEADS BACK TO AUCKLAND
Taipei based carrier, China Airlines has announced that it is set to resume services to Auckland, ten years after it last operated there. China Airlines existing thrice-weekly service from Taipei to Brisbane will now extend to Auckland and is operated with A330-200 equipment. In the period between July 2009 and 2010, over 45,000 O+D passengers flew between Taipei and Auckland, with Cathay Pacific routing 39% of these passengers via Hong Kong.
MIHIN LANKA TO OPEN THREE NEW ROUTES
Regional SriLankan operator Mihin Lanka has announced three new routes from its Colombo base. Effective December 2nd, the carrier will inaugurate a four-times weekly service to Male. This route has seen over 316,000 O+D passengers fly the route with SriLankan Airlines currnelty having a 64% share of the market.
Mihin Lanka will also introduce thrice-weekly services to Jakarta, Indonesia and Dhaka, Bangladesh on the same date. It will compete with Biman Bangladesh which offers an eight-times weekly service to Dhaka, whilst the Colombo to Jakarta route is currently not served.
ASIANA RAMPS UP HONG KONG SERVICES
Asiana Airlines has announced that effective December 6th, it will re-introduce a third daily frequency from Seoul Incheon to Hong Kong. Between July 2009 and July 2010, IATA BSP data demonstrates that over 1.2 million O+D passengers flew the route, with Cathay Pacific and Korean Air having a 30% share of the traffic, followed by Asiana with 29%.
JET AIRWAYS TO GO DOUBLE DAILY TO SRILANKA
India's largest airline, Jet Airways has revealed that effective October 31st, it will add a second daily frequency from Chennai to Colombo to be operated with B737-800 aircraft. IATA BSP data shows that over 535,000 O+D passengers have flown the route between July 2009 and July 2010 with SriLankan Airlines having a 34% of this market, Jet Airways has a 10% share, although its subsidiary JetLite has an 18% share.
AIR NEW ZEALAND RESUMES TOKYO TO CHRISTCHURCH SECTOR
Star Alliance member, Air New Zealand, effective October 31st will resume scheduled services from Christchurch to Tokyo Narita on a thrice-weekly basis. IATA BSP data shows that over 37,000 O+D passengers flew the sector between July 2009 and July 2010.
URAL DOUBLES UP ON BEIJING
Russian carrier, Ural Airlines will double existing frequency into the Chinese capital of Beijing. From December 7th, it will increase its existing twice-weekly service to a four-times weekly rotation from Ekaterinburg. Air China currently also operates the service twice-weekly.
