CATHAY PACIFIC INCREASES TAIPEI SERVICES

Effective this winter season (October 31st), Cathay Pacific will increase its scheduled Hong Kong to Taipei Taoyuan service from 95 to 101 weekly. It now operates up to 14 daily flights. Between June 2009 and June 2010, over 4 million O+D passengers flew the sector with China Airlines the market leader with a 34% share of this market.

ASIANA AIRLINES TO INCREASE ITS PHILIPPINE SERVICES

Star Alliance member, Asiana, will increase existing scheduled services from its Seoul Incheon base to Cebu and Manila in the Philippines. From December 15th, 2010 until 27 February 2011, it will increase service to Manila from a 14 weekly service to a 17 times-weekly service. During the same period, Asiana will go double daily on Cebu. Asiana faces competition on the Manila sector from Korean Air which operates 14 weekly, Philippine Airlines also operates14 times weekly and Cebu Pacific which operates a daily service. On Cebu, the same carriers also serve the route from Incheon with the addition of Zest Air which operates a four times weekly service.

JET AIRWAYS ADDS NEW MARKETS TO SRI LANKA

India's largest carrier, Jet Airways has announced further expansion to its SriLankan schedules with the introduction of two new services to Colombo, effective November 5th. The carrier will introduce new service from Delhi and Mumbai on a daily rotation to be operated with regional equipment (E-170).

Jet Airways will compete with SriLankan Airlines which operates 7 weekly flights from Colombo to Delhi and the same frequency to Mumbai. Both routes are operated with A320 equipment.

JIN AIR EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE

Korean Air's low-cost subsidiary Jin Air has revealed that it will add two more international gateways this winter. Effective October 26th, Jin Air will begin serving Clark International Airport in the Philippines operating five-times weekly from its base at Seoul Incheon. It will compete on the route with Asiana Airlines which operates a daily A320 service.

Additionally, and effective November 29th, Jin Air will commence a five-times weekly service to Macau, China, a route that is served 13 times weekly by Air Macau which has monopolised a route that has seen over 87,000 passengers fly on its non-stop service between June 2009 and 2010.

EL AL INCREASES CHINA FLIGHTS

Israeli carrier El AL has announced that it will increase services from Tel Aviv to Beijing with the addition of a fourth-weekly service that begins November 3rd. The route is operated with B767-200. El AL is the only carrier currently operating the route, however there is scope for new non-stop service as just 63% of the 32,000 O+D markets travels on the non-stop El Al services.
