RYANAIR BOOSTS LINKS TO LARNACA

Irish budget carrier Ryanair is to increase its network to Cyprus with the launch of flights to Larnaca from Bologna and Dusseldorf Weeze. It inaugurated operations to Larnaca in November last year and currently offers connections from Brussels Charleroi and Barcelona Girona.

UK CAA PROPOSES
TO EXTEND PRICE CONTROL PERIOD AT LONDON AIRPORTS

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has opened a consultation on its proposals to extend the current price controls at London’s two largest airports - Heathrow and Gatwick - by one year to provide an opportunity for the next price control to, it describes, “be developed in line with reforms to the framework for economic regulation planned by the Government”. Under the Government’s proposals, the CAA would have a new primary duty to promote the interests of passengers and would provide the agency with more flexible tools to regulate airports, strengthening its ability to protect passengers and improve service quality, whilst ensuring that licence holders are able to finance their activities. The legislative timetable for implementing these reforms has not yet been settled and the detail of the new regime will be subject to normal Parliamentary processes.

LUXAIR BOOSTS SUMMER SCHEDULES

SKYWAYS EXPANDS OUTSIDE OF SCANDINAVIA

Scandinavian regional carrier Skyways is to open a regional base in the southern Swedish city of Jönköping. The airline is to offer twice daily flights to Brussels and a daily link to Berlin Tegel, the only overseas connections from the airport. Skyways already flies to Jönköping from Stockholm Arlanda.

CAMBRIDGE AIRPORT TARGETS REGIONAL AIRLINES

It may be located just a stone’s throw away from London Stansted Airport but the management of the recently rebranded Cambridge Airport are confident of attracting operators to the facility. Formerly Marshall Airport Cambridge, the facility has been renamed to separate the business into a distinct unit away from owner Marshall Group’s other activities, while taking advantage of its proximity to the internationally renowned heart of Cambridge’s high-tech scientific, academic and business community. “Cambridge Airport offers a wealth of possibilities that have yet to be exploited,” said the airport’s newly appointed director, Archie Garden. “We offer the full spectrum of aviation services and our vision is to develop the principal sectors of executive aviation, regular niche European city services, and aviation training.” Scheduled operations from Cambridge have been limited although every year a small number of charter flights operate from the airport.
