MEXICANA PULLS DOWN US FLYING; slashes domestic services

Mexicana will focus its North American services from Mexico City, Cancun and Guadalajara, from August 30th, according to GDS data. This means the following route adjustments:

REDUCTION

  • Chicago - Guadalajara: Reduce from 10 to seven weekly from August 31
  • Denver - Mexico City: Reduce from daily to five weekly between September 2 and November 14
  • Las Vegas - Mexico City: Reduce from 18 to 17 weekly from September 1 (Compared with W09, an increase from 14)
  • Los Angeles - Guadalajara: Reduce from 31 weekly to 28 weekly from September 1
  • Los Angeles - Mexico City: Reduce from 38 to 30 weekly from September 1

Aires to operate JFK on a daily basis

Colombian carrier Aires has announced that it will increase its current three times weekly service to JFK from Bogota to a daily flight from August 1. The carrier competes on the sector with Avianca, which operates a 12 times weekly service and Delta, which offers four weekly flights. IATA BSP data shows that the Colombian national carrier Avianca has a 68% of this market.


American Challenges Delta at JFK300710-delta-americas

American Airlines is adding three additional new routes from 18 November, operated by American Eagle. These are: New York JFK-Cincinnati, New York JFK-Indianapolis and New York JFK-Norfolk.

American will compete with Delta with services into its Cincinnati hub. Delta currently flies this segment on a twice-daily basis.

American will also inaugurate new services to Indianapolis where Delta offers a 13 times weekly service with regional aircraft.

The third route into Norfolk, Virginia is also operated by Delta on a double daily rotation, also with regional aircraft.


Delta Axes Markets into LAX

SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines will discontinue service from Hartford to Los Angeles from September 30. Plus, from October 1 services from Raleigh Durham (RDU) and Columbus, Ohio (CMH) will also be canned. Delta currently operates 517 weekly flights from LAX to over 25 destinations.
