Copa Aims For Argentina Link

Panama City's flag carrier, Copa Airlines will fly to Rosario, Argentina, subject to receiving the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority's approval for the new service.

The planned route is based on the success of its daily flights between Panama and Cordoba, which it operates on a daily basis. It also flies to Buenos Aires (EZE) on a 17-times weekly rotation.


WestJet Serves New Dominican Route

Low-cost operator WestJet has begun a once-weekly non-stop service from its Toronto base to Samana in the Dominican Republic, with a B737-800. It is the carrier's first service to Samana. However WestJet already serves Punta Cana from Montreal. From Toronto it also flies to Punta Cana and Puerto Plata.

JetBlue will begin its first services out of Washington National Airport (DCA) from November 1.

It will commence flights with a daily service to Boston, and a once-weekly flight to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

The carrier will compete on the Boston segment with United, Delta and US Airways. On the Orlando sector, it will be up against AirTran and US Airways and from Fort Lauderdale, it will go head-to-head with Spirit Airlines.

US Airways is the largest carrier at DCA, operating 1,218 weekly flights, representing nearly 50% of all scheduled traffic.


Avianca to serve El Salvador

Colombian national carrier, Avianca, which recently merged with TACA, has revealed plans to serve San Salvador. The carrier will launch a daily A319 service from its Bogota hub from August 9. There is currently no existing service between the two points.

IATA BSP data shows that over 13,000 O&D passengers flew the route between April 2009 and 2010, with the majority of passengers currently flying via Panama with Copa and San Jose with Lacsa.
