DELTA TO ENTER TRUNK DOMESTIC ROUTE

SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines has announced plans for three new routes to commence from April 1st this year. It will commence a new four-times daily service from Los Angeles to Sacramento to be operated with Skywest CRJ200 equipment. Delta will compete on the route with United Airlines which operates a four-times daily service, whilst low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines serves the route over fifty times weekly. IATA BSP data shows that over 473,000 O+D passengers have flown the route between October 2009 and 2010 with Southwest having a 90% market share.


AIR CANADA GOES FIVE DAILY ON LAX

Star Alliance member, Air Canada, has announced that it will add a fifth daily service from its Toronto Pearson hub to Los Angeles. The additional frequency will commence from May 16th with A319 equipment. Air Canada competes on the sector with oneworld member American Airlines which serves the route daily and Virgin America which operates the route on a six-times weekly basis.

IATA BSP data shows that over 395,000 O+D passengers flew the route between October 2009 and 2010 with Air Canada having a 56% market share.


DELTA BOLSTERS RALEIGH NETWORK

Delta has also announced scheduled expansion of its operation at Raleigh Durham where it is the largest scheduled operator, with new service to Albany and Providence. Albany will be operated six-times weekly with Pinnacle Airlines CRJ200 aircraft, whilst Providence will be operated on a daily basis with the same aircraft. Both routes currently have no non-stop service.


VOLARIS BOOSTS US NETWORK

Volaris will boost its US presence from March 30th, with a scheduled daily flight from Guadalajara to Las Vegas. IATA BSP data shows that over 60,000 O+D passengers flew the route between October 2009 and October 2010. Mexicana had operated the route until it ceased operations last year. Volaris currently serves four other markets in the US, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose and Chicago Midway.


INCREASE ON THE HORIZON

Horizon Air, a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines will double capacity on the Seattle to Long Beach sector, from twice-weekly to a four-times weekly operated with CRJ700 equipment. It competes on the route with JetBlue Airways which operates A320 aircraft 18 times-weekly. The increase will come into effect from June 1st.


CONTINENTAL TO ADD TO MEXICAN NETWORK

From May 3rd, Continental will launch a daily service from Los Angeles to Guadalajara to be operated with B737-800 equipment. Continental will compete with a number of carriers on the sector. Aeromexico operates a double daily service, whilst Alaska Airlines and Delta offer a daily schedule. Volaris serves the route thrice-daily.
