AIRES CUTS INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS

Colombian operator Aires, recently acquired by the LAN group has announced that it will discontinue a number of international routes. Effective January 18th, three international routes will be dropped to Fort Lauderdale from Barranquilla, Cali and Cartagena, whilst it will also drop Bogota to JFK and Pereira to Panama City. The only route not to be dropped will be its Bogota to Fort Lauderdale service, where Aires is the third largest operator with a 22% market share, behind Spirit which has a 30% share and Avianca a 44% share.


COPA AIRLINES TO LAUNCH TORONTO SERVICE

Star Alliance member to be, Copa Airlines has announced that it will open new scheduled services from Panama City to Toronto effective June 16th. The route will be operated four-times weekly with B737 equipment. American Airlines currently has a 41% share of this indirect market via Miami as there is no existing non-stop service.


GOL BOOSTS BARBADOS CAPACITY

Brazilian operator GOL will add capacity to Barbados from Sao Paulo. It had operated a single aisle B737-800 aircraft on the route, this will now be operated by widebody B767 aircraft on a once-weekly basis. GOL is the only carrier serving the route.


AIR NEW ZEALAND TO BOOST WEST COAST SERVICES

Star Alliance member, Air New Zealand has announced that it will add new scheduled services from Auckland to San Francisco effective December 1st 2011. The route has seen over 50,000 annual O+D passengers travelling the route with significant leakage via Los Angeles with Qantas.


ARKEFLY HEADS TO MIAMI

The vertically integrated carrier of TUI Netherlands, Arkefly has announced that it will commence scheduled services from Amsterdam to Orlando Sanford and Miami effective June 24th. The service will be operated as a triangle, twice-weekly with B767-300 equipment. KLM owned Martinair will discontinue its four-times weekly service to Miami next week.
