RETURN TO DENVER
Mexico's largest carrier, Aeromexico plans to operate scheduled non-stop service from Mexico City to Denver from December 15th. The route will be operated thrice-weekly with B737-700 aircraft. Between July 2009 and July 2010, nearly 90,000 O+D passengers have flown the route, with Mexicana having a 48% share of this traffic before its demise
COPA TO LAUNCH ST MAARTEN
Panama based Copa Airlines will introduce a new twice-weekly service from Panama City to St Maarten. The route will be introduced December 18th. Copa currently operates over 85 weekly flights to eight destinations in the Caribbean with Santa Domingo and Havana its most heavily operated routes with four-daily flights each.
RIO BOOST FOR LAN
LAN Chile will begin non-stop services from its Santiago base with a daily connection to Rio de Janeiro. Effective January 1st, the carrier will operate the route with A320 service. There is currently no non-stop service between the city pairs; however there is an existing O+D market of nearly 140,000 annual passengers. LAN does serve Rio via Sao Paulo as a change of gauge service.
CONTINENTAL BOLSTERS MEXICAN LINKS
Star Alliance member, Continental Airlines will launch a new daily service Los Angeles to Leon Guanajuato from October 31st. The route will be operated with B737-500 equipment and will compete with a four-times weekly service, operated by Aeromexico with E-190 aircraft. It will be Continental's only international flight from Los Angeles.
Continental will also launch additional services into Cancun, with new non-stop services from Raleigh Durham, San Antonio and Austin from February 19th, markets that have no existing non-stop service into the ASUR owned airport.
LAN BOOSTS CAPITAL CAPACITY
LAN Peru has announced that effective, April 1st, it will add a sixth-weekly flight between Lima and Mexico City to be operated with B767-300ER aircraft. IATA BSP data shows that over 78,000 O+D passengers have flown between the city pairs between July 2009 and 2010. Aeromexico currently has a 46% share of this market, with LAN 26% with TACA the third largest carrier in terms of passenger numbers with an 8% share.
SAS TO BEGIN NEWARK SERVICES
Star Alliance member, SAS, will begin non-stop services from its Oslo hub to Newark, effective March 27th, 2011. The route will be operated daily with A330-330 aircraft. The service will increase Star Alliance capacity on the sector, with Continental Airlines operating a daily narrowbody service (B757). IATA BSP data shows that over 62,000 passengers flew between Oslo and Newark, between July 2009 and July 2010.
