ONEWORLD TRANSATLANTIC VENTURE LEADS TO AMERICAN AIRLINES ROUTES

Oneworld members American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia will launch new transatlantic routes next year as part of their transatlantic joint venture. American Airlines will launch services from New York to Budapest, and Chicago to Helsinki linking routes with Malev and Finnair who will provide connectivity. Delta Airlines currently operates a four-times weekly service from JFK to Budapest, however there is no current non-stop service from Chicago to Helsinki, although Finnair does operate a four-times weekly service from Helsinki to New York.

JACKSONVILLE GAINS SAN JUAN SERVICE

Jacksonville (JAX), has secured new international service with the announcement that JetBlue Airways will begin new non-stop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

JetBlue will continue its Caribbean focus with a new non-stop daily rotation from JAX beginning May 19th. According to Flightbase data it will be the only international destination served from JAX, and the third route operated into JAX by JetBlue which currently has 18 services to JFK and a daily to Boston, which will now become a double daily in May next year.

AIR CANADA BOOSTS MEXICO CITY SERVICES

Effective June 1st, 2011, Star Alliance member, Air Canada will increase existing service from Toronto to Mexico City. It currently serves the Mexican capital eleven times weekly, however this is set to be increased to a double daily rotation. The route is operated with A319 equipment. According to IATA BSP data, Air Canada currently has a 42% share of the O+D market. Mexicana has also operated a non-stop service before the carrier ceased operations.

COPA BOOST FOR CANCUN

The national airline of Panama, Copa Airlines, plans to introduce a third daily frequency from Tocumen International, Panama City to the ASUR owned airport of Cancun. The additional daily rotation will begin from December 10th, meaning that the route is operate by two aircraft type; a daily B737-700 service and a twice daily Embraer E190 aircraft. Copa is currently the only carrier operating the route non-stop.

DELTA SET TO CUT HONOLULU ROUTE

SkyTeam member, Delta Air Lines will discontinue its scheduled route from its Detroit hub to Honolulu, effective January3rd, 2011. It currently operates the route on a thrice-weekly basis with A330-300 equipment. Delta will continue to serve Honolulu from existing points in the US, notably Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco and Salt Lake City, on a daily basis, LAX thrice-daily and Minneapolis four-times weekly. Delta also operates flights from Osaka Kansai on a daily rotation and Tokyo Narita on a 19 times weekly basis.
