VIRGIN AMERICA TO OPEN DALLAS FORT WORTH

Virgin America has announced that it will begin new non-stop services to Dallas from its west coast bases of Los Angeles and San Francisco. It will launch a double daily service to DFW from both of its bases from December 1st and December 6th respectively. It will face competition on both sectors from American Airlines and United Airlines.

American Airlines currently has a 73% share of the LAX-DFW market which has seen over 600,000 O+D passengers fly the route between May 09-10. AA also has a 66% share of the SFO-DFW market which saw nearly 400,000 O+D pax fly the sector during the same time period.


AIR INDIA GOES NON-STOP TO TORONTO

Air India has announced that it will begin non-stop services from Delhi to Toronto from October 31st to be operated on a daily basis with B777-300 equipment. Air India currently serves Toronto from Delhi via London Heathrow with 5th freedom traffic rights. IATA BSP data shows that over 133,000 pax have flown between Delhi and Toronto between May 2009-10 with Jet Airways having a 28% share of this market via its Brussels mini hub.


FRONTIER SWITCHES HOUSTON AIRPORTS

Denver based Frontier Airlines will switch its Houston operations from George Bush International (IAH) to William Hobby Airport from this November. Frontier currently serves George Bush (IAH) on a thrice daily rotation from Denver. This move will see Frontier move to Houston's secondary airport where Southwest Airlines operates 113,891 weekly seats, an 89% market share with just six carriers operating scheduled services from the airport.


DELTA AIR LINES HEADS TO ICELAND

Effective June 1st, 2011, SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines will begin a new daily B757-200 service to Reykjavik from its JFK hub. It will compete on the route with Icelandair which also operates a daily. IATA BSP data shows that over 64,000 O+D passengers flew the city pairs from May 2009-2010.

Elsewhere Delta has made a number of changes to its European operations.

New York JFK - Nice Reduce from 4 to 3 weekly from 01JAN11
New York JFK - Venice Reduce from 5 to 4 weekly from 01JAN11


AEROLINEAS TO RESUME MEXICO CITY

The national airline of Argentina, Aerolineas Argentinas will resume scheduled services from Buenos Aires to Mexico City effective December 11th. The service will be operated with A340 equipment on a daily basis. Currently Aeromexico operates a thrice weekly service and Mexicana had been operating a daily sector.IATA BSP data shows that over 135,000 O+D passengers flew the route between May 2009 and 2010.


PORTER RAMPS UP NEWARK FREQUENCY

Porter Airlines which is based out of Toronto City Centre Airport, will ramp up capacity from YTZ to Newark from September 20th with the addition of new frequencies meaning that the carrier will operate the route eleven times daily with its fleet of Q400 aircraft. It is the only carrier flying this airport pair, however Continental Airlines and Air Canada serve Newark from Toronto Pearson.
