Mexicana airlines suspends new ticket sales
Mexico's largest airline, Mexicana airlines, has suspended future ticket sales as of 6pm last night. Mexicana has insisted it will honor all current flights for passengers currently holding tickets.
The suspension comes after Mexicana confirmed it has begun bankruptcy filing in both Mexico City and New York earlier this week. The company is hoping to restructure to meet the demands of its customers, and is currently in negotiations with its labor force and creditors. They are hoping to reduce crew staffing by 40% and cut pilot and flight attendants salaries by 40%. The company current owes more than 1 billion dollars in debt according to its bankruptcy petition.
MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink, both subsidiaries of Mexicana Airlines, will continue to operate normally.
