Jet Airways Grows in a Downturn

Jet Airways’ latest route announcement includes the introduction of daily non-stop flights from Mumbai to Johannesburg from April 14 using an A330-200 aircraft – the first time that the airline’s route network has included an African destination.

The carrier also reported 30% year-on-year growth in international passenger traffic for the January period (26% in the domestic network). This was its fourth consecutive month of growth, strengthening its leading position in the Indian market.

Network Strategy

Jet Airways’ hub is in Mumbai and also has large operations at Delhi and Chennai. It operates a total of over 340,000 weekly seats with a large presence throughout subcontinent and Asia-Pacific markets, as well as serving Europe and North America.

Jet Airways operates a ‘mini hub’ in Brussels where it operates to North America, including flights to New York (JFK), Newark (EWR) and Toronto (YYZ).

It is seeking to add routes for its wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, with main focus from its Mumbai hub.
