Construction of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport’s (CKG) $3.5 billion Terminal 3B and fourth runway are progressing well and should be completed during 2024.

The airport said the move will help to create “an international aviation hub” with additional international regional routes and intercontinental services.

The expansion will see capacity swell to 80 million passengers per year and increase peak-hour movements to between 70 and 80 per hour.

Before the work is completed, CKG hopes to boost peak-hour capacity to 60 movements per hour and is awaiting final approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. “It is expected that the slots allocation can be made before the end of this year, which will provide more slot resources for domestic and foreign airlines,” the airport said.
