Jetblue Doubles LAX Capacity

190310-jetblue-laxJFK-based low-cost carrier, JetBlue Airways, will double its twice-daily LAX service from July 1.

It faces scheduled competition on the route from American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta and Virgin America. IATA BSP data (Airport IS) shows that in 2009 over 1.9 million passengers flew the route non-stop, with American Airlines enjoying a 36% market share



Carpatair Moves into Italy

Romanian regional carrier Carpatair has announcednew services from Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport to Bologna, Milan Bergamo (both six times a week), Venice and Verona (three times a week)

The new schedule begins on May 17, with all routes operated with Fokker 70 aircraft.


Jin Air's Expansion Race

190310-jinair-expansionGuam is to become Jin Air's second international destination after Bangkok with its new daily service from Seoul Incheon starting on April 20.

The route is currently operated by parent company Korean Air, using A330 aircraft. IATA BSP data shows that Korean flew 168,052 passengers on the route between January 2009 and January 2010.

Australian carrier Strategic Airlines' first international scheduled service from Perth will be another sunshine route with the carrier heading to Bali.

The route starts on June 12 on a three times weekly basis and faces heavy competition from low-fare carriers Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Indonesia AirAsia and Indonesian flag carrier Garuda.


Silk Air Supports Singapore Airlines in India

Singapore Airlines' subsidiary, Silk Air is to start offering non-stop services to Bangalore andChennai.

Singapore Airlines already operates these routes, but Silk will offer additional frequency or could potentially take over SQ frequencies on days when the legacy carrier has weaker load factors. The airline can also compete directly with Tiger Airways on the sectors.
