First UK flight for Arik Air

Arik Air has ordered three Airbus 340-500s to begin its first intercontinental service between Lagos and London Heathrow on December 4, its managing director, Michael McTighe, has said.

"We are pleased that we are launching our first intercontinental flight with brand-new Airbus A340-500s," he told reporters.

He added that from December Arik Air would also act as the national carrier for neighbouring Niger.

"Niger approached us and presented their case saying they had no national airline," he said. "It makes us very proud that we carry the flag of another country on our aircraft."
