And Finally...Lost Luggage

We have all suffered the inconvenience or know of a friend or colleague that has had the misfortune of bags becoming lost or delayed during a flight. More often than not this is due to a tight connection en route or labelling issues. But imagine how you would feel if you arrived at your destination, collected your baggage and then found some of its contents went missing while travelling from the airport to the city centre. Well, that is exactly what has been happening to passengers travelling from Girona Airport into Barcelona in recent months.

The local police had received numerous complaints about valuables being stolen from luggage during the hour long journey, but believe they have now apprehended the culprit, a man hidden in a large suitcase! According to reports, the police arrested the suspect earlier this month bringing a surprise conclusion to the case.

Apparently the robberies were well planned. The alleged thief would pack himself into a large suitcase while his accomplice purchases tickets for the journey. The case would then be loaded onto the bus and while en route to Barcelona, the suspect would emerge from the bag to steal valuable objects from fellow passengers’ luggage. These were all deposited into a smaller bag which the suspect hid alongside himself within the suitcase for collection by his accomplice at the end of the trip.

According to a police spokesman, when they investigated the robberies they discovered “a man doubled up almost like a contortionist” in a large suitcase along with a mobile phone, a small bag and a sharp object to open zips and locks.
