EU traffic down 4% in October
Passenger traffic at European airports fell 4% in October 2008 compared with a year earlier, while freight dropped 8.4% in the same period, according to the latest figures from ACI Europe.
ACI Europe director general, Olivier Jankovec: “The global economic crisis continues to bite European airports. Traffic continues to slow down, with more and more airports reporting falling passenger and freight traffic.
Although the overall picture still remains contrasted as some markets like Switzerland, France or Russia continue to grow, the situation has further worsened in many markets from the UK and Spain to Germany, Austria, Scandinavia. October has also seen a number of Eastern European airports reporting declining traffic for the first time since their countries joined the EU.”
