Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) opened nine gates, marking the first completed component of a $3 billion rebuild of Terminal C.

The 52-year-old terminal, exclusively used by American Airlines, is the busiest of DFW’s five terminals. The rebuild started in 2024 and is scheduled to be fully completed by 2030.

The new pier, which opened on June 8, features four all-new gates and five reconstructed gates. “The [gates] were constructed using modular technology that moved six modules across the airfield and into place at the site of the expansion,” DFW noted.

The new pier housing the nine gates spans 115,000 ft.2 DFW-based American said the modular building technique reduced operational disruption and expedited the construction timeline.

The pier “includes electronic boarding gates, upgraded customer amenities, expanded seating areas, new concessions and other enhancements,” DFW said.

American is operating around 200 mainline departures a day from Terminal C during the 2026 summer season. “If Terminal C were a standalone hub, it would be the fifth-largest hub in American’s network by departures,” the airline noted.

The rebuilt Terminal C will ultimately span 1 million ft.2

The Terminal C reconstruction is part of a massive expansion program at DFW. The airport plans to open a sixth terminal next year. Terminal F, scheduled to initially open with 15 gates in 2027, will ultimately have 31 gates when finally completed. Also to be used by American, Terminal F has a $4 billion price tag.
