Delta Air Lines will open three seasonal transatlantic routes from New York John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) for the 2024 northern hemisphere summer season, including nonstop service to Munich Airport (MUC).

The carrier has also dropped plans to operate flights between Portland, Oregon, and Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) and will resume Los Angeles (LAX)-Shanghai Pudong (PVG) flights for the 2024 summer season.

The JFK-MUC route will kick off April 9, 2024, and be operated 3X-weekly, according to a Delta statement.

The SkyTeam carrier will additionally launch flights between JFK and Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP) in Italy. The seasonal route will be flown daily from May 23, 2024.

Delta notes flights to NAP complement service from JFK to Italian destinations Milan, Rome Fiumicino and Venice.

Also on May 23, 2024, the carrier will open daily flights between JFK and Shannon Airport (SNN) in Ireland. The airline has previously operated the JFK-SNN route, but has not done so since 2019.

Delta says “a record-setting summer across the Atlantic” this summer portends strong transatlantic traffic in summer 2024. The airline plans to operate nearly 260 weekly flights from JFK to 29 destinations across 18 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East in its summer 2024 schedule.

Delta’s seasonal service from its Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) home hub to Zurich will return in summer 2024, the carrier says. The route will be flown 4X-weekly. From ATL, Delta will operate 180 weekly transatlantic flights to 21 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East in its summer 2024 schedule.

Looking to the transpacific market, Delta plans to resume year-round 4X-weekly flights on the LAX-PVG route from March 31, 2024.

But the carrier has told the U.S. Transportation Department (DOT) that it will not launch service between Portland International Airport and HND by an Oct. 29 deadline. The carrier will return the daily slot pair DOT had awarded Delta to operate the route.

Delta will also extend planned northern hemisphere 2023-24 winter seasonal flights between LAX and Auckland to year-round service. The airline notes it will increase its daily service from LAX to Sydney to 2X-daily from December 2023.
