Construction gets underway at Lublin Airport!

The 15th of November saw a number of dignitaries from the Polish City of Lublin come together to celebrate the start of the construction of the city’s airport. The ceremony which was held at the airport site marks the official start of the construction process that will culminate in the opening of Lublin Airport during the spring of 2012.

Lublin Airport has been designed to provide services to low cost, charter and full service airlines. Over 2.2 million people live within the airport’s catchment area. In addition, Lublin’s location, close to the border with Ukraine means that Lublin Airport will also attract cross border passengers, further enhancing the catchment area.

Speaking at the event which was attended by a number of invited guests including Members of Parliament and representatives of Central and Local Government, President of Lublin Airport Mr Grzegorz Muszynski commented “I am delighted that construction has commenced on what is a very exciting project for the people of the Lublin region. Our vision is for Lublin Airport to serve the local community by providing direct air services to promote tourism and economic development. Today marks the first step in making our vision a reality”.

Once completed, Lublin Airport’s runway will be 2520m and the airport’s terminal will have capacity for 1m passengers per annum.
