Cologne Bonn Airport has welcomed a total of 20 new destinations for its 2015 schedule, including ten new long-haul destinations operated by Eurowings, as well as four new airlines and ten new services.
The 2015 SKYTRAX winner for Best Regional Airport in Europe for the second consecutive year has registered an eight percent growth in passenger numbers for the first five months of 2015.
The airport’s increased number of services has encouraged a higher forecast in passenger numbers for 2015, with the airport expecting 10 million passengers, equalling a 6 percent increase in comparison to 2014
German low-cost carrier, Eurowings is one of four new airlines to Cologne/Bonn, and plans to launch a number of new and exciting long-haul destinations including a thrice weekly link from Dubai, and a twice weekly link to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi from 5 November and 20 December respectively. The new Dubai service will not only be a new destination for Cologne/Bonn, but will target new low-cost travellers in Europe and the Gulf.
The Lufthansa-Group airline will also commence a number of new routes to the Caribbean, including Puerto Plata and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic from 7 November. Varadero – one of the largest resort areas in the Caribbean will also be served twice-weekly by Eurowings from 2 November.
Cancun – an important leisure destination in Mexico will be served twice weekly from 8 November, while Phuket in Thailand will be available twice weekly from 18 December.
Finally, the German carrier will operate a number of new charter services for TUI and AIDA cruises including a twice-weekly link to Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, from 20 November. A twice weekly link to Montego Bay – the second largest city in Jamaica by area will begin operation on 15 November, while a two-times-weekly charter link to La Romana (Dominican Republic) will commence on 13 November.
Cologne/Bonn hopes to expand its destination map even further to include a number of new routes in the US, such as Fort Lauderdale and New York, as well as the powder-white beach destination of Mauritius in Africa.
Agadir in Morocco, a resort area known for its golf courses, wide crescent beach and seaside promenade lined in cafes, restaurants and bars is another desired route for the German airport, as well as Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan region, and Malé in the Maldives.
European destinations such as Marseille, a port city in the South of France, the Norwegian capital of Oslo, and the cultural capital of Russia – St Petersburg are all majorly desired routes for Cologne/Bonn.
The interactive route map below highlights a number of new routes for Cologne-Bonn, including five new routes across Europe from Ryanair, and a further two operated by Wizz Air.
Earlier this year, Ryanair increased the frequency on its Madrid routing to offer a daily service rather than four-times-weekly. London Stansted and Tenerife will increase in frequency from 26 October to 17 weekly and three-weekly respectively, and the airline's Rome Ciampino route will increase from 7 to 12 weekly from 2 November.
Finally, Wizzair will increase frequency on its Skopje route from 20 June, to operate thrice weekly instead of twice-weekly.
The airport’s ever-growing destination map is supported by its 100 percent slot availability, no curfew, and its catchment area of 17 million inhabitants within a radius of 100km.
