BMI inks MAS codeshare
London Heathrow based carrier BMI has agreed a codeshare agreement with fellow Star Alliance carrier Malaysia Airlines to place its code on the Malaysian carriers London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur flight. Malaysia Airlines is currently the only carrier that operates KL to London Heathrow, eventhough low cost carrier Air Asia X does operate a 12x weekly service from KUL to secondary airport London Stansted.
Fresh from BMI announcing a raft of job cuts and the planned discontinuation of many of its long haul flights the codeshare will give BMI passengers the opportunity to fly BMI through its LHR hub on the same ticket to KUL. Malaysia Airlines currently opeartes a 4x daily service to LHR with B747-400 aircraft. The codeshare agreement will also allow MS passengers access to many European short haul destinations as BMI turns it focus to the short and medium haul market.
