Alaska Airlines next year will launch summer seasonal service between Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), utilizing the range of the Boeing 737-8s set to start entering the carrier’s fleet in 2024.

The 2,940-nm (3,380-mi.) route, which will become the longest in Alaska’s network, will be operated daily with a new 737-8, part of the carrier’s order for 52 MAX aircraft (a mix of -8s, -9s and -10s) placed in October 2022. 

The 737-8 “will have the longest range of any plane in our fleet—allowing us to add new nonstop destinations that we couldn't before,” the Seattle-based carrier says in a statement. Service on the ANC-JFK route will be operated from June 13, 2024, to Aug. 19, 2024.

Alaska additionally will open 1X-weekly seasonal service between ANC and San Diego International Airport (SAN) from May 18 to Aug. 17.

By mid-June 2024, Alaska will operate 14 routes from Anchorage to: Chicago O’Hare; Denver; Honolulu; Los Angeles; Las Vegas; Minneapolis; JFK; Phoenix; Portland; Salt Lake City; SAN; San Francisco; Seattle; and Seattle Paine Field.

"Alaskans love nonstop flights to and from the state,” says Marilyn Romano, the airline’s regional vice president for Alaska. “We like having great travel options, and adding places such as New York and San Diego definitely fit the bill. During [the airline’s] peak summer days, we'll have a robust flight schedule of 63 departures a day from Anchorage."
