Alaska Airlines will launch nonstop flights between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita in May 2027, adding a transpacific link alongside three new domestic routes.
Service between Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) will begin May 13 using Boeing 737-8s, subject to government approval. Flights will operate daily through Sept. 7. Alaska plans to resume the route 3X-weekly in January 2028.
“This long-requested route will open new opportunities for tourism and commerce,” Alaska Airlines regional VP Marilyn Romano says.
The expansion builds on Alaska’s dominant position at Anchorage. OAG Schedules Analyser data shows the airline offered approximately 1.69 million departing seats during summer 2026, up 2.9% year over year. Its share of the airport’s capacity increased to 65.9% from 63.9%, while total departing seats were broadly flat at 2.56 million.
Alaska served 32 destinations from Anchorage during the summer, compared with 30 a year earlier. Seattle remained its largest market, accounting for approximately 526,000 departing seats, followed by Fairbanks with 167,000 and Portland with 149,000.
The NRT route will add an Asian destination to an Anchorage network whose scheduled international services in summer 2026 comprised Frankfurt, Vancouver and Calgary. Condor operated the Frankfurt flights, while Air Canada served Vancouver and WestJet linked Anchorage with Calgary, according to OAG.
Elsewhere, Alaska will also introduce Saturday-only ANC flights to Austin, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; and Dallas-Fort Worth from June 12 through Aug. 7, 2027. The carrier said the additions would support its largest-ever nonstop schedule from the state.
