Through merging its network and fleet with Air One, Alitalia no longer operates a dual hub strategy from Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino. It has also significantly downsized its entire operation, now operating just 57 weekly flights.
Since relaunching operations in January 2009 Alitalia has focused its route strategy on Rome Fiumicino and has, as a result, moved away from Milan Malpensa. The new Alitalia has transferred much of its domestic and regional flying to Air One to compete with other regional Italian carriers and low-cost operators.
Additionally, Alitalia has added a number of medium- and long-haul routes this year, with new services to Miami and Los Angeles and Jordan and has increased capacity to Tel Aviv.
Alitalia's second largest base is now Milan Linate.
FLEET
Gruppo Alitalia currently flies a fleet of 154 aircraft, including: 18 wide-bodies (B772, A330, B767) and 136 narrow-bodies and regional aircraft (MD80, B737, A319, A320, A321, EMB170, CRJ900).

AIRLINE REQUIREMENTS
Alitalia's operations are centred on the Rome FCO hub and five main bases: Milan (LIN), Venice (VCE), Turin (TRN), Naples (NAP) and Catania (CTA). Medium-haul flights serving the Milan (MXP) market are flown under the Air One brand.
Alitalia would welcome new air service proposals from airports and is interested in receiving business cases on sustainable development of new links with current Alitalia bases, which should preferably include:
- Traffic data (historic and forecasted)
- Market characteristics (yield, business / leisure mix ...)
- Airport costs and published incentive schemes
Planning for summer 2011 is in progress and Alitalia would welcome new service proposals from airports in Europe and the Mediterranean.
