The latest news on airports globally, with updates on financing, infrastructure expansion and sustainability initiatives.

Citing UK government trade data, London Heathrow Airport (LHR) reported it handled £293 billion ($393 billion) worth of goods in 2025, making LHR the UK’s largest cargo port—air or sea—by value. “On average, a Heathrow flight carries around £600,000 of cargo—roughly £3,500 worth of goods beneath the seat of every passenger on board,” LHR said. The airport handled 1.59 million metric tons of cargo in 2025. Approximately £127 billion worth of goods were exported from the airport in 2025, LHR said.

AirAsia Philippines and Malaysia AirAsia moved all international flight operations from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 at Manilla’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). AirAsia Philippines said the move is part of MNL’s “ongoing program to optimize terminal operations.” AirAsia Philippines operates domestic flights out of Terminal 1 at MNL, so transferring passengers now have a shorter connection distance.

Aéroports de Montréal, which manages Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), reported net income of C$159 million ($115 million) for 2025, down 12.7% from 2024. Annual revenue totaled C$960.8 million in 2025, up 4.8% year over year. Capital investments in YUL totaled C$696.5 million in 2025, up 58.6% year over year. YUL handled 22.4 million passengers in 2025, down 0.5% compared to 2024. “Notably, the domestic and international sectors grew [year over year], posting increases of 1.9% and 2.4%, respectively,” Aéroports de Montréal noted. “The U.S. transborder sector declined by 9.5%.”

Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) was awarded $8 million in FAA grant money. The funds will be allocated to renovate a number of gates at LAS and other upgrades.

Kansai International Airport (KIX) serving Osaka, Japan, will open 24 new retail outlets on June 2 as it completes the five-year renovation of Terminal 1. “These include luxury brands, shops making their first appearance at a Japanese airport, retail stores offering character goods and popular local specialties, and well-known fast-food chains,” KIX said. The opening of the retail area will mark the final piece of the Terminal 1 renovation, on which construction commenced in 2021.

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) Executive Director Harry Barrett will leave the southern California airport to become assistant director of Sacramento International Airport (SMF). Barrett will stay on as head of PSP until May 21. He will begin his new role at SMF on May 26. “At this time, an interim executive director has not yet been designated and a timeline for recruitment of PSP’s next executive director has not yet been determined,” PSP said.
