Air Transat will launch five routes between Canada and Europe in summer 2027, adding Geneva and Birmingham to its network while expanding from Montreal and Quebec City.
The airline will begin 2X-weekly flights between Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Geneva Airport on June 19, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays through Oct. 23.
A 2X-weekly route from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Birmingham Airport, England, will follow on June 22 and run through Oct. 22. The service will complement Air Transat’s existing UK routes to London Gatwick and Manchester.
The summer schedule also includes weekly flights from Montreal to Faro Airport, Quebec City to Lyon Airport and Quebec City to Barcelona El Prat Airport.
“We want to develop a range of destinations that complement one another and offer travelers a variety of experiences,” Sebastian Ponce, Transat's chief revenue officer, said. “Our summer 2027 program combines opportunities to discover new regions of Europe with an expanded presence in markets we already serve.”
The Geneva route will place Air Transat in direct competition with Air Canada. OAG data shows Air Canada is currently scheduled to offer approximately 117,500 two-way seats between YUL and Geneva during summer 2027, down 5.5% from summer 2026.
Birmingham, by contrast, is not currently scheduled to have another nonstop Canadian service. The route will restore direct connectivity between the UK’s second-largest city and Toronto.
Faro will become Air Transat’s third destination in Portugal from Montreal, joining Lisbon and Porto. The carrier already serves the Algarve gateway from YYZ, where it is scheduled to provide about 37,000 two-way seats during summer 2027.
At YQB, weekly service to Lyon will begin June 8 and continue through Oct. 26. Barcelona flights will operate from June 14 through Oct. 25, creating the first nonstop connection between Quebec City and Spain.
The two routes will use Airbus A321LR aircraft and increase Air Transat’s European network from YQB to five destinations alongside Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, Marseille Provence Airport and Nantes Atlantique Airport.
Sabre Market Intelligence data shows Barcelona and Lyon are among Quebec City’s larger unserved European markets. Approximately 5,200 two-way passengers traveled between YQB and Barcelona in 2025, an increase of 50.8% from the previous year. Barcelona ranked as the airport’s third-largest European city market after Paris and London.
Lyon generated about 4,550 passengers, up 9.6% year over year. Together, the two markets attracted almost 9,800 passengers during 2025 despite requiring a connection.
Before the announcement of the five new routes, airlines were scheduled to offer approximately 15.79 million two-way Canada-Europe seats during summer 2027, an increase of 4.2% from summer 2026. Other additions include Discover Airlines’ Frankfurt-Edmonton route and new Air Canada services linking Montreal with Dubrovnik, Seville and Tenerife. Air Canada is also adding Toronto flights to Nice, Oslo and Shannon.
Elsewhere, Air Transat has also confirmed plans to extend its Quebec City-Puerto Plata and Montreal-St. Maarten routes beyond the winter season, operating both weekly throughout summer and making them year-round services.
