Aeroflot to Resume Flights to Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City

Aeroflot Russian Airlines is to resume flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam this winter after an almost ten year gap. According to its provisional Northern Winter schedule on the GDS display the airline will offer a twice weekly frequency on both routes from its Moscow Sheremetyevo hub

The Ho Chi Minh City route will be introduced from October 30 and will be operated by a Boeing 767-300ER. Vietnam Airlines and Transaero Airlines already serve the route with three and two weekly frequencies respectively from Moscow Domodedovo. Approximately 61,000 O&D passengers travelled on this route during the past year, a 17.1 per cent increase over the previous 12 month period. Aeroflot already holds a 10.4 per cent share of the Vietnamese traffic from Russia, a market of approximately 171,000 O&D passengers, from its four times weekly Moscow Sheremetyevo – Hanoi link.

Meanwhile, the Colombo route is set to be inaugurated from November 1 and will also be operated using a 767-300ER. Approximately 16,000 O&D passengers travelled on scheduled services between Russia and Sri Lanka in the past year, the majority flying via Dubai with Emirates Airline due to the lack of direct services.
