AA Applies For Dallas-Rio Route
American Airlines has applied to the US Department of Transport to fly non-stop from its Dallas Fort Worth hub to Rio De Janeiro.
The carrier intends to start thrice-weekly services from November 18, with 767-300 aircraft.
It was recently granted DOT approval to offer daily non-stops between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Rio as well as a four-times weekly non-stop between Miami and Brasilia from November 18.
Peter Dolara, American Airlines' senior vice president, Mexico Caribbean and Latin America, said: "Most of our existing services to Rio fly from gateways along the East Coast, and flights from DFW to Rio will allow passengers to make convenient connections to and from dozens of cities via Dallas/Fort Worth."
He adds: "Brazil is an important Latin American marketplace and will host the 2014 World Cup. While Rio is a cultural and commercial financial center that will be home to the 2016 Olympic Games. American offers more flights to more destinations in Latin America than any other carrier."
