Uganda Airlines has entered a new interline partnership with Air India, marking a step in the carrier’s expansion strategy and strengthening air travel links between Africa and Asia.

The partnership, officially unveiled Sept. 17, enables travelers from Entebbe to book a single ticket and connect to over 25 destinations across India, including Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Beyond India, passengers gain access to global hubs such as Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, London Heathrow, and Singapore through Air India’s extensive network.

The arrangement also opens Africa to Air India passengers. Travelers from Asia can now connect directly to Entebbe or continue to other regional destinations such as South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Zambia via Uganda Airlines’ growing route network.

Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki said the interline agreement is a “significant step in our strategy to connect Uganda to Africa and beyond ... this partnership with Air India ... offers our customers a smooth, single-ticket travel experience to dozens of new destinations, while strengthening economic and cultural ties between our regions.”

Air India Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Aggarwal said, “This collaboration not only provides our customers seamless access to Uganda and Africa but also welcomes Ugandan travelers to explore India’s vast network, building stronger ties between our regions.”

Since its revival in 2019, Uganda Airlines operates one of the youngest fleets in Africa, operating four Canadair CRJ900LR regional jets and two Airbus A330-800 widebody long-haul aircraft. The airline also wet-leases an A320-200 for additional routes.

Bamuturaki also confirmed to Aviation Week in May that the carrier has secured government approval to negotiate orders with Airbus to acquire two A320neos and two A321neos for delivery in 2031-33.

For Air India, which operates more than 300 aircraft to over 55 international destinations, the partnership complements its ongoing transformation and expansion plans.
