Spirit Airlines is based at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Spirit Airlines will open flights from its base in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to two new international destinations for the upcoming winter schedule, bringing to seven the number of airports added to its network in 2025.
The ULCC emerged from Chapter 11 restructuring in March and the new points—Belize and the Grand Cayman islands—will be its first new international destinations post-bankruptcy. In May, the carrier said it still faces “challenges and uncertainties in our business operations.” Still, Spirit has shown a willingness to add network points, starting with two domestic routes in June.
Three more domestic destinations will join the carrier’s route map this year. All of the new points will connect at least to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), giving passengers access to Spirit’s network from its base, from which it will serve more than 70 destinations by the end of the year.
From Nov. 21, the airline will start service between FLL and Belize’s Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE). The all-Airbus A320-family operator will fly the route to the Central American country with a Caribbean coastline 3X-weekly.
"This new route enhances our connectivity and offers more convenient travel options for both visitors and our diaspora,” Belize Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler said.
From Dec. 4, Spirit will commence flights between FLL and Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) in the Grand Cayman islands. Service to GCM will be operated 3X-weekly.
Both the FLL-BZE and FLL-GCM routes will be exclusive to Spirit.
The airline had previously launched or announced five domestic additions to its network in 2025, all of which are small markets.
In June, it kicked off flights from Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport in Tennessee to FLL (3X-weekly), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (4X-weekly flights) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) (4X-weekly). Also that month, the carrier added Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina with 3X-weekly flights to FLL and 4X-weekly flights to both EWR and MCO.
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) in Georgia will join the carrier’s network from Aug. 14 with daily service to EWR. Later routes added from SAV will include FLL (4X-weekly starting Oct. 9), Nashville (3X-weekly from Oct. 9) and Detroit (2X-weekly beginning Oct. 10).
New network point Macon, Georgia, will see 2X-weekly service to FLL commence on Oct. 16.
Spirit will also begin a 145-mi. route between new destination Key West, Florida, and FLL. Service will kick off at 4X-weekly frequencies on Nov. 6 before becoming daily on Dec. 16.
The short route, which will be exclusive to the airline, will enable travelers to avoid a more-than-4-hr. drive to Fort Lauderdale from the island city off Florida’s southern coast. It will also connect Key West passengers to Spirit’s network from FLL, where the carrier will offer more than 100 peak-day departures by the end of year.
