South African Airways (SAA) and Johannesburg-based airline CemAir have announced a new codeshare partnership aimed at expanding domestic air travel across South Africa.

Under the partnership, both airlines will place their codes on each other’s flights, enabling customers to book single-ticket itineraries

SAA Group CEO John Lamola said the partnership is a “game changer” for domestic travel in South Africa.

“Unlike our international codeshares, this agreement focuses on connecting major cities with regional and leisure destinations that were previously beyond SAA’s reach. By combining our strengths with CemAir, we’re delivering greater flexibility, convenience and choice for our customers, while supporting tourism and economic growth across the country,” he said.

CemAir CEO Miles van der Molen added that the collaboration represents a “shared vision” to offer travelers better access with more flexibility and greater reliability.

Founded in 2005, CemAir operates scheduled flights across South Africa’s major cities and regional hubs, including Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, George, East London, Gqeberha, Margate, Kimberley, Hoedspruit, and Mala Mala.

The airline’s fleet of more than 30 aircraft includes Bombardier CRJ jets, De Havilland Canada Dash 8 turboprops and Beechcraft 1900Ds, allowing access to both large and smaller regional airports.
