Maldivian ATR 72-600
Maldives’ state-owned flag-carrier Maldivian has ordered two ATR aircraft to continue the upgrade of its turboprop fleet.
The carrier has signed a firm order for two ATR 42-600s, which will be used to replace older turboprops. Maldivian, originally known as Island Aviation and now operating as the airline division of Island Aviation Services, operates nine De Havilland Canada DHC-6s, seven DHC-8s, and three ATR 72-600s, according to the Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database. An ATR 42-600 ordered in January 2022 is scheduled for delivery in the 2023 fourth quarter, according to Fleet Discovery. The first of the ATRs arrived in January.
In addition to its turboprops, Maldivian operates an Airbus A320. The turboprop fleet operates a network across the Maldives archipelago, while the A320 flies two routes to India and one to Bangladesh, according to the CAPA website.
Emirates and Maldivian signed an interline agreement on Sept. 15, allowing Emirates passengers to connect to 16 destinations beyond Male in the Maldives.
