DHL opened freighter service between Bangkok and its Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) hub, boosting connectivity on the growing Southeast Asia-North America air cargo corridor.
Service between Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and CVG will be operated 3X-weekly with widebody freighters offering up to 100 tons of cargo capacity per flight, according to DHL. CVG serves as the Bonn, Germany-based company’s U.S. hub—DHL’s CVG operations cover nearly 200 acres with around 70 aircraft parking gates. BKK is one of the carrier’s key Asia airports.
Southeast Asia is of growing importance to air cargo operators as logistics networks shift to the region, in part to diversify supply chains to reduce reliance on China.
“Southeast Asia continues to gain strategic importance as a manufacturing and sourcing region,” DHL Global Air Freight Head Henk Venema said. DHL added the BKK-CVG route “is particularly suited for oversized and high-value cargo, supported by end-to-end operational control.”
The commencement of the new service follows DHL raising its full-year 2026 earnings outlook by nearly 5% after a better-than-expected second quarter.
Asia-North America air cargo traffic continues to show strength this year after contracting in 2025. According to the International Air Transport Association, Asia-North America cargo ton kilometers grew 19.9% year over year in May, the fourth consecutive month of growth.
