DHL Aviation unveiled two fully branded Boeing 737-400(SF) aircraft at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, on Jan. 27, as the company continues its ongoing investment in logistics infrastructure across sub-Saharan Africa.

The additional aircraft are expected to improve transit times, enhance delivery reliability and expand DHL’s capacity to support businesses across West Africa and international markets.

The move comes amid growing demand for efficient cross-border logistics, fueled by sectors including e-commerce, perishables, energy, life sciences and healthcare.

Anthony Beckley, vice president of operations and aviation at DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, says the investment “aligns” with rising trade activity across the continent, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

“As trade expands across Africa, businesses are demanding predictable transit times and consistent delivery performance,” Beckley says.

“The two dedicated aircraft will be integrated into DHL Aviation’s African air network, strengthening connections on critical Africa-Europe and Africa-Asia trade lanes.”

He adds that DHL’s investment in aviation capacity complements the company’s broader commitment to sustainable growth.

This includes the use of artificial intelligence for route optimization, digital customs tools and pilot projects involving renewable energy and alternative fuels at its facilities.
