Air Zimbabwe looks at Airbus and Boeing jets for refleet

Air Zimbabwe could eventually receive Airbus and Boeing jets, after the Zimbabwean Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has spoken with the two companies regarding leasing.

The carrier has been looking for a strategic partner to invest, and aims to refleet its fleet of aging A320-200s, B737-200Advs, B767-200s and a MA-60.
Our planes are now very old and we are operating at a loss. First move would be to look for planes to lease and then we can partner somebody. No one can partner you if you have a lot of debts. We have also engaged Ethiopian Airlines and TAAG Angola Airlines, and negotiations for public private partnerships are in progress,” said Transport and Infrastructure Development, deputy minister, Michael Madanha.
CEO, Air Zimbabwe, Edmund Makona, has hinted that either A330s or B787s will be used for the carrier’s widebody needs, whilst regional jets and B737s will be used for narrowbody needs.
