AVEX boosted by GE's presence at show

GE is the latest of the major companies to announce a presence at the AVEX show which takes place in Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt in November

GE and its partners signed more than US$17 billion in deals at this year’s Farnborough Airshow and is focusing on the signs of an airline industry comeback.

Announcing GE’s participation at AVEX International Airshow, Muhammad Al-Lamadani, Senior Executive Sales, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Commonwealth Independent States, said, “The Middle East and North Africa region announced limited order deferrals and cancellations in 2009 and 2010 as carriers went through the trough of the recession cycle with traffic levels in the region suffering to a lesser degree compared to other regions in the world. At the Farnborough air show this year we saw some major aircraft and engine order announcements from some of our key customers in the region such as Emirates, Etihad, and Air Arabia. AVEX 2010 is a great way to end the year and no doubt a great event for the region to further reinforce its global position in the aviation industry.”

AVEX International Airshow is scheduled to take place from November 7th – 10th 2010 at Sharm El Sheikh International Airport.

Confirming AVEX’s importance to MENA’s aviation industry, Mr. Al-Lamadani continued, “GE has been keeping a close eye on the economic climate around the world to ensure our company can continue to meet customers’ changing needs and remain competitive. AVEX 2010 is one of the channels through which GE keeps in close touch with our customers as well as maintains our market exposure”.

As the global economy emerges from the economic downturn, the aviation industry is also showing signs of revival. According to media reports, the Middle East and Africa recorded the two strongest June international passenger traffic growths of any global region which is a positive indication of the continuing growth of these respective travel markets.

Meanwhile, Boeing’s latest Current Market Outlook (CMO) forecasts the value of the airplane market in Africa to be US$80 billion with the Middle Eastern market size anticipated to be US$ 390 billion.
