United Tests Gate Readers, Installs FastAIR To Speed Processing
United is bringing back automated gate readers, a technology it tried and scrapped earlier, and is installing at some airports FastAIR, a PC-based link to the Apollo computer reservations system that speeds processing by replacing several commands with menus. The gate reader enables an agent to determine who is on an aircraft by wiping a ticket through the device. United told employees it hopes gate readers will reduce flight close-out delays, verify passenger boardings for positive baggage matches, reduce denied boardings and lessen ticket fraud.
