UK low-fare regional carrier Flybe has recently re-opened its operational base at Aberdeen International Airport, host of this year’s Routes Europe. The airline is offering a strong summer 2015 schedule for the Granite City with up to 75 flights a week on five routes, one of which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The measures outlined by Heathrow’s management would boost the seven existing domestic routes served from the airport (Aberdeen, Belfast City, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle), offering the potential for better timed and more frequent flights, but also the introduction of direct flights from nine other domestic airports not currently served by Heathrow, meaning that a total of at least 16 regional airports will have the opportunity of direct links to the UK’s hub.

The new Guidelines on state aid in the aviation sector offer Member States a degree of flexibility in granting investment aid which they consider necessary for regional airports. In addition, operating aid may be granted for a transitional period of ten years to airports with fewer than three million passengers. Subject to final regulatory approval, Alaska Airlines will offer a four times weekly schedule between Orange County and San José del Cabo, in the Baja California Sur state, starting from October 8, 2015 and three times weekly between Orange County and Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport in Puerto Vallarta from October 9, 2015. Both routes will be flown using Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 equipment.
