The network additions will increase the number of destinations served in Japan to five as the East Asian country moves to loosen its stringent COVID-19 restrictions.
Now in its 15th year, Routes Asia brings together airlines, airports, tourism authorities and governments to plan new flights and increase existing services. Over 930 route development professionals from 110 airlines, 170 airports and 20 tourism authorities are expected to attend this year’s event at Okinawa Convention Centre.
Okinawa will host the first Japanese Routes Asia air service development forum this weekend (19-21 March) to boost international transport connections.
Over the past three years Okinawa’s Naha Airport has more than trebled its international flight capacity, and it hopes that hosting next year’s Routes Asia will help attract additional foreign air links into the southernmost prefecture of Japan.
Okinawa Prefecture is located roughly halfway between Japan and East Asia with flight times between the main islands of Japan and various Asian cities being within four hours. The airline plans to expand its services to include a thrice weekly rotation between Hong Kong and Yancheng, in the Northeastern Jiangsu province, China. The two hour ten minute flight will be operated by the airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft, and will operate on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday from March 31, 2015.
