Midcoast Aviation has acquired two Hawker 800 and two Hawker 700 landing gear sets for quick exchange. Also, Midcoast has designed and developed a new sealing system to extend seal service life on four components aboard Falcon 20 and Falcon 200 aircraft, including nose gear retract cylinder, nose door retract cylinder, main door retract cylinder and airbrake actuators.

Pentagon 2000 Software, Inc., introduced OpenEDI, a business-to-business "transaction engine" for medium and large aerospace and defense organizations. Software eliminates need for translation between EDI formats such as Spec 2000, X12 and Edifact, according to Pentagon 2000, and is available as a module in larger Pentagon MRO management packages or as a stand-alone package.

FAA mandated two Boeing service bulletins (SBs) calling for 737-100 through -500 forward pressure bulkhead inspections -- checks that the agency estimates could affect 2,580 aircraft and cost nearly $26 million.

United Technologies completed the acquisition of Cade Industries, Lansing, Mich., which will be incorporated as part of Pratt&Whitney's engine services operation. In related news, UTC said its wholly owned subsidiary Sphere Corp. was merged with Cade. Cade designs, manufactures and overhauls composite components, and has several engine test facilities.

Raytheon will provide overall contractor field service support oversight of all ground stations, sensors and datalinks supporting the U-2 for FY2000 under a $43.8 million contract from the Warner Robins ALC, Robins AFB, GA. Contract options could increase value of award to $250 million over the next five years. As a subcontractor to Raytheon, Harris received a one-year, $48 million contract to provide engineering field services to the fleet of U-2s. Four additional option years could increase contract value to $32 million.

Rockwell Collins will supply its Total Entertainment System to SAS for installation on six Airbus A340 and A330 aircraft, with options for seven more. Deliveries begin July 2001. Also, Qantas selected Total Entertainment System for its fleet of 747-400s. Installation will begin April 2001.

SR Technics facility in Palmdale, Calif., is scheduled to start operations in June. With 1 million sq. ft. of hangar space on 150 acres, SR Technics America initially will focus on DC-10 to MD-10 aircraft conversion. It plans to eventually handle regularly scheduled aircraft checks and modifications for Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

Aviation Sales created TIMCO Engineered Systems, a new engineering and manufacturing division within its TIMCO maintenance operations. It will specialize in design, manufacturing and certification of avionics, passenger entertainment and aircraft interior products, and offer modifications to aircraft smoke detection/fire suppression systems, water/waste systems, environmental control systems, and structural installations up to freighter conversions.

Triumph Group, Inc., acquired ACR Industries, Macomb, Mich., which manufactures complex geared assemblies such as turbofan engine gearboxes, helicopter transmissions and geared systems for fixed-wing aircraft. ACR will bring about $45 million annual revenue to Triumph Group.
