Air Line Pilots Assn. International reported Wednesday that its pilots ratified a tentative agreement with Air Transat ( ATW Daily News, Sept. 6). ATR announced it will open a training center in Johannesburg, South Africa, in partnership with Comair, slated to be operational by April 2011. It will be the turboprop manufacturer's first training center in Africa. Embraer closed a credit agreement for $1 billion, which it said it intends to use "to ensure access to short-term funds at pre-negotiated rates, if the company should need them." The agreement, which was made with a group of 25 financial institutions under the coordination of BNP Paribas, renews a syndicated credit operation of $500 million from August 2006. The funds will be available for two years with a payment deadline of September 2013.

Continental Airlines announced Thursday it reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract with its 9,300 CO flight attendants represented by the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. In a statement, CO said the IAM is expected to hold a ratification vote in the coming weeks. “We appreciate the IAM’s leadership in reaching this important agreement that recognizes the interests of our flight attendants and the company,” said CO Senior VP-Human Resources and Labor Relations Mike Bonds.
